Almost on a daily basis, you are bombarded by screaming adverts; Make a Million Naira on the Internet in 1 week and you are all fired up to also get your own piece of the internet cash cake. There’s nothing wrong with that but in this post, I want to show you the other side of the coin, afterall, there are 2 sides to a coin. I call this post 7 hard lessons I have learnt about making money online and I know you will either agree or disagree with me after reading it. It doesn’t matter which side of the divide you belong to but for once, I have chosen to reveal the reality behind making money online. This post is not meant to discourage you from striving to make money online, rather, it is meant to open your eyes to the challenges you will face in your quest so that you can prepare yourself for them. Hard lesson No 1: You must be prepared to get out of your comfort zone. Internet success is not for people who are not prepared for hard work. It is only for people who are prepared to get out of their comfort zone, people who are prepared to work their butts off in search of crisp dollar mints. You see, it’s only in the dictionary that hard work comes before, in the world of internet business, hard work precedes enjoyment. You must not say these are the things I am familiar with so I will stay in them, you need to move into areas which you are not familiar with. Hard lesson No 2: Focus, focus, focus. Whether you like it or not, you must be focused to make money online. I know it’s a bit difficult when new internet wealth programs are being advertised on a daily basis but you must force yourself to focus on any program you have chosen and make a success of it before moving into any other new program..
Hard lesson No 3: It’s a whole new world of education. If you are a graduate or very well educated, you will find making money online a whole new world of education. In fact, you will find most of the new terms (upload, autoresponder, optin, sales letter, email marketing, web design, affiliate marketing ) you will be confronted with intimidating. One good thing however is the fact that if you patiently go through this learning process and succeed, you will have a high chance of succeeding online. I won’t lie to you, there is a learning curve to making money online. It is only after you have passed the learning curve that you will land into really big money, so, if you are reading this and you are going through your learning curve, please be patient, you will soon land into big cash online.
Hard Lesson No 4: There’s so much uncertainty surrounding Internet Business. You just cannot predict what will work for you, that is why I have a problem with people asking me how much they can make from the Internet within few months if they invest in it. Internet business is not stock investment that you can speculate. You see, we are different human beings with different strokes. What worked for me when I started, may not work for you, you jus have to keep on searching till you hit your goal.I have students that I introduced Information marketing to with the hope that they will succeed with it but I tell you, such students ended up succeeding with adsense.I have students I told about adsense but they ended up succeeding with affiliate programs. That is why you need to expose yourself to several internet business seminars and see which works for you. Hard Lesson No 5:One-man,one-woman show. Everyday,you have to take decisions all alone. No one to consult and then most of the chores in your business have to be done by you.I tell you, it can be lonely but just persist, you will get there. In 2003,when I was the alpha and omega(am not God o) of my business, I had to do everything myself(was still working at City People then),most times, it was tiring but I persisted and God saw me through till today that I have people on my payroll.
Hard Lesson No 6:You must promote to prosper. Whether you are doing affiliate marketing, ebook creation and marketing, blogging, adsense, etc, you must find a way to promote your Internet Business. If not, I’m sorry to say your business will not prosper. This promotion seems to be the albatross of many people who want to make money online and I dare say it’s the problem of many bloggers who are yet to make good money from their blogs. They spend so much time putting great content on their blogs but getting people to come read the blog is a whole new kettle of fish. Whether you like it or not,promotion is key to the success of your Internet Business and the earlier you learn how to do it the better.
Hard Lesson No 7:You need a mentor, an accountability partner. Starting off an Internet business, I won’t lie to you can be very daunting. You may have attended several seminars and know what exactly to do but to start it off, will be difficult and that is why you need a mentor, an accountability partner. Most times, that mentor has to be someone who has done exactly what you also want to do.
